</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Thank you to all who have attended or contributed to SCUU's Church Online via Zoom. Unfortunately, some people have taken advantage of Zoom meetings [Not Ours], joining them to cause disruption or harm. Zoom has offered some options we can take in order to prevent this from happening.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
1) <b>Do not announce the meeting on a public website</b>. SCUU has removed the link to the weekly service on our website</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
2) <b>Use a new meeting number for each meeting</b>. Future meeting ids will be put in the Digest or emailed weekly, they will not be on our website.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
3) <b>Use a meeting password</b>. You'll need the password for connecting from a computer or smartphone, and for joining via phone.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
4) <b>Use a waiting room</b> and admit only people who are known to you. We have done this, but are searching for a way to allow verified visitors.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
5) <b>Lock the meeting</b>. We will not allow more people to join after 10:40 or 10:45.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
6) <b>Do not post recordings</b>. Meeting recordings will not be posted as previously communicated.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica; font-size: 13.3333px;">
</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<div style="font-family: arial, helvetica;">
Thanks in advance for joining, and we hope the additional restrictions are not too difficult to overcome.</div>

And by the time they do, they have alarmingly low oxygen levels and moderate-to-severe pneumonia (as seen on chest X-rays). Normal oxygen saturation for most persons at sea level is 94 percent to 100 percent; Covid pneumonia patients I saw had oxygen saturations as low as 50 percent."</span></div>

Excerpt from MSN Lifestyle Article:<br />

The <a data-id="115" data-m="{"i":115,"p":110,"n":"partnerLink","y":24,"o":5}" href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/03/9569035/first-coronavirus-vaccine-test-jennifer-haller-moderna-trial" target="_blank">first person to receive the Moderna coronavirus vaccine was Jennifer Haller</a> of Seattle ...<br />
<br />
“I don’t have specific stories, but I am thinking a lot about<a data-id="125" data-m="{"i":125,"p":110,"n":"partnerLink","y":24,"o":15}" href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/03/9573590/ice-agents-raid-homes-coronavirus-lockdown" target="_blank"> undocumented workers right now</a>. My birthday was just last week and for the past couple of years I’ve done a fundraiser on Facebook. This year I picked a non-profit to support undocumented workers. That’s a group that has completely fallen through the cracks and received zero help from the federal government, certainly.<br />
<br />
“They have the hardest jobs in our country, I believe, and critical jobs. And so that was something that was important to me to support and to recognize.<br />
<br />
“I don’t know how to say it, but I know my family and my neighbors are going to look back on this time and be like, ‘Wow, wasn’t that magical? We got to slow down. We got to spend some quality time with our family. We got to connect.’ And I’m really kind of embarrassed by that, because half of our country, even prior to this crisis, was living paycheck to paycheck.<br />
<br />
“So I hope, when I’m doing interviews, when people are hearing my story, what I really hope is that it inspires them to think beyond themselves. It’s natural, when we’re in crisis, to go inward to protect ourselves and to protect our family. But I really hope that this can inspire people to step outside of that and to think bigger. And I hope, certainly more broadly, that this is a wake-up call for our country to recognize <a data-id="127" data-m="{"i":127,"p":110,"n":"partnerLink","y":24,"o":17}" href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/04/9678018/138-great-equalizer-coronavirus-black-people-death-covid-19" target="_blank">the inequality that has always been there</a> and to take some important steps to meet everybody’s basic human needs: universal healthcare, paid sick time, a livable minimum wage, I could go on…”adam_styleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12847785573033000658noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18552501.post-40567713535652668602020-04-06T16:53:00.002-04:002020-04-06T16:54:17.564-04:00Just Mercy Awesome MovieA historical bookend to "To Kill a MockingBird" ...one based on facts the other not ...<br />

Pandemic</h1>
<div class="entry-content" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); border: 0px; clear: both; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, "Bitstream Charter", serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px; padding: 12px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 17px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
What if you thought of it<br />
as the Jews consider the Sabbath—<br />
the most sacred of times?<br />
Cease from travel.<br />
Cease from buying and selling.<br />
Give up, just for now,<br />
on trying to make the world<br />
different than it is.<br />
Sing. Pray. Touch only those<br />
to whom you commit your life.<br />
Center down.<br />
<br />
And when your body has become still,<br />
reach out with your heart.<br />
Know that we are connected<br />
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.<br />
(You could hardly deny it now.)<br />
Know that our lives<br />
are in one another’s hands.<br />
(Surely, that has come clear.)<br />
Do not reach out your hands.<br />
Reach out your heart.<br />
Reach out your words.<br />
Reach out all the tendrils<br />
of compassion that move, invisibly,<br />
where we cannot touch.<br />
<br />
Promise this world your love–<br />
for better or for worse,<br />
in sickness and in health,<br />
so long as we all shall live.<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If we updated our banner and used it as a sail on the ship that we use to sail to our new destination it might look like this ...</span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Volunteer System allows us to make helpful connections.</span></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Look at those who are long term volunteers being committee members. I see these folks as committed to our ministry for the duration of their terms. Now, look at those whose ministry is to be there to support committee members throughout the Volunteer System’s trial period (the Go ‘Rounders.) That period ends with the congregational vote at our May annual meeting on whether or not to have a volunteer system.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Any committee member qualifies as a </span><span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">Requester</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">.</span></span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Step 1 is when a committee member finds <b>a need to have a one-time task done</b>. Julie B. from the E-Task Force needed a volunteer substitute for Laura to do the Weekly Digest.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Step 2 is when Julie asked Helen <b>who is available</b> for that temporary job. Rosie was the one.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Step 3 is when Julie gave <b>a personal invitation</b> with a full job description to Rosie.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Step 4 is when the two women buddied-up with <b>mentoring</b> and technical help to accomplish the task. (The arrangement was so satisfying that Rosie went ahead and was editor for seven issues! Obviously, this is not the usual example of the “One task- One time’ stipulation of the Volunteer System.)</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Step 5 is when <b>gratitude</b> is shown to the volunteer for completion of the task.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Step 6 is when the </span></span><b style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Manager </b><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">was </span></span><b style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">notified</b><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> (Helen, with Jeff substituting from Jan. 10 till March 10, by the </span><span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">Requester</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">, Julie, that Rosie had completed the job. Note: An additional adjustment to the System was when Rosie decided to bank her credits for later use and stay active as a volunteer (on the Go ‘Round list of five folks, at this point.)</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br /></span></span></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">The Go ‘Rounders are each committed to doing one task per month during the Volunteer System trial period. So far, these wonderful folks have found new knowledge and awareness of Sugarloaf’s inner workings when giving their monthly boosts toward achieving committee goals for our sustainability on our land.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; margin-bottom: 5pt; margin-top: 5pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
